L & L Hawaiian Barbeque

Our first review! It just happens that the first place we stopped by was at L & L Hawaiian Barbecue on Fairway in Roseville. This is not our first time going here. Our review starts off here.

...As we opened the front doors, we were warmly greeted with a friendly "Aloha!" from an attractive cashier[not pictured]. We looked around and took note of the soft lighting, & organized menu. We promptly placed our orders, and proceeded to gawk at the pictures of attractive island girls that decorated the walls. Note: click on pictures to view the full sizes.

We received our orders shortly, and were given our food at our tables. First up was the Chicken Katsu Curry with the standard side of rice and macaroni. As you can see from the picture, the serving size of chicken was MASSIVE. You cannot even see the rice or macaroni. My immediate reaction was the realization that I had just received a deal that had serious bang for the buck. The chicken itself was deep-fried to golden perfection. It tasted very fresh, was crispy, well-breaded, and juicy inside. The only problem was that if you attempted to complete the whole dish, you begin to feel extremely full and somewhat sick.

This is a picture of normal chicken katsu, but in the mini size. You cannot tell from the picture, but there is still quite a lot of meat to go with the rice and macaroni for this dish.

We also tried the spam musubi, which was like a giant sized spam sushi wrapped in seaweed. It tasted very good and cost a little over a buck fifty. The only negative with this piece is that the seaweed was somewhat difficult to bite through, but as I ate it I developed somewhat of a technique to help me take it down.

This is the "Loco Moco" dish which consists of eggs and beef patties in some sort of gravy. The eggs pictured here are done on both sides. This dish tasted very good and the food was cooked well. It was quite satisfying and filling.

While we ate, Harold decided to order a cheeseburger just for the heck of it, because it was also only a little over a buck fifty. Now, L & L is not a burger shack, so we weren't expecting much from a cheeseburger here. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptional either. If you really want a burger, you should try In N Out, which Harold & Kumar will review soon.

This picture depicts the mini dish of BBQ short ribs with macaroni and rice. The serving size of meat in this dish massive given its "mini" name. If you are really hungry, the regular size plates are more than sufficient to satisfy the needs of a real man. But anyways, the shortribs here were cooked perfectly, and were firm yet tender. The glaze L & L uses on these ribs is more on the sweet side, and made the meat come out very moist. It tasted great and went well with the macaroni and rice.

This dish is the Kailua Pork, regular size. As I attempted to pick my styrofoam plate of this dish up, I was shocked at how heavy it was. I opened this dish and realized that all the weight was the pork. I'm guessing there was around 5-7 pounds of pork here. The taste of the pork reminded me a lot of tuna, because it was extremely salty. I got tired of it quick and tried to force myself to finish it. Afterwards I felt very sick. I definitely did not like this dish. I do not recommend it, but it did provide a lot of bang for the buck considering the island style portion size.

Other dishes we have tried in the past include:
BBQ Mixplate very good [harold's pick]
Seafood Combo Plate excellent [kumar's pick]
BBQ Chicken Plate good
Spam Saimin okay
